Cognitive Behavioural Therapy has a highly practical approach to problem solving. The therapy focuses on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that we hold and how this may relate to the issue or problems we are facing. It helps identify these underlying beliefs within the client’s thought processes that can influence their feelings and behaviour, often going against what they really want or would like to achieve.
Once the principles of CBT are learned they can be applied to many life situations. A course is normally 4-10 sessions, but can be longer by agreement if felt necessary and beneficial. CBT is the therapy of choice of the NHS and it appeals to doctors and patients alike for its relative brevity and wide application.
